Grand Friends K-3 Literacy Night

Grand Friends Literacy Night
  • PTSA is thrilled to announce that we are bringing back our popular Grand Friends event – with a new format and a whole lot of cuteness.

For 2023 we are hosting a Grand Friends K-3 Literacy Night – Camp Read S’more on Tuesday, November 14th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the FSUS Cafeteria.

The event offers an opportunity for students to share a literacy themed evening with their grand friends. Grand Friends are grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors and special friends who support their FSUS students. The event will engage participants to develop their reading skills in a setting outside the classroom. All attending students will receive a book, reading stations/activities will take place throughout the cafeteria and dinner will be served to all attendees.

There is no cost to those who attend the event. Each year, the PTSA puts on host of activities and events to support family engagement at our school which are funded through  membership dues and generous donations. Membership is just $5 with a suggested family donation of $25.

A few important registration details to share:

    • Registration is online only.
    • Registration will be capped at 200 people total (grand friends and students).

  • Frequently Asked Questions About Grand Friends Day

What is Grand Friends K-3 Literacy Night?

Grand Friends Literacy Night is a family engagement event which provides an opportunity for students to share their FSUS experience with the people who are important in their lives. Grand Friends are grandparents, aunts, uncles and special friends who support their FSUS students. Literacy Night will provide our grand friends and students an opportunity to attend an after school event with a variety of fun reading-based activities. The event will engage the children to develop their reading skills in a setting outside the classroom.

Why is the event limited to grades K-3?

Successful reading programs begin with phonics in kindergarten and build to reading comprehension and critical thinking by third grade. By the third grade, students must make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. If they do not, they cannot do their coursework. After mastering literacy skills in earlier grades, third graders become better and more independent readers. Third grade reading focuses on teaching children how to think and talk about what they read in deeper and more detailed ways.

Is there a cost for Grand Friends K-3 Literacy Night?

No! Isn’t that great? Each year, the PTSA puts on host of activities and events to support family engagement at our school which are funded through your membership dues and generous donations. If you are not a member, please consider joining. Membership is just $5 with a suggested family donation of $25. To ensure you are not charged for the event use the PROMO CODE FREE at checkout.
