I am very happy to be joining the FSUS community this year. I am originaly from Puerto Rico and came to Tallahassee in 2018 to attend FSU. I moved here with my husband and 3 kids. I am fluent in English and Spanish so feel free to say "hola!".
For the past two years I have been a full time PhD student in Art Education at FSU. It's been a great enriching experience that now I will continue while putting the knowledge to practice. I was an art teacher in Puerto Rico in a private bilingual school for 4 years and had a few years of experience in other scenarios.
I have a BA in graphic design from School of Visual Arts in NY, NY and an MA in Art Education from Universidad del Turabo in Gurabo, PR. I consider myself an artist, an educator and a researcher. I particularly love working with textiles, sewing and bookmaking. I have been focusing my research through arts-based methodology and have fallen in love with the conceptual language of art. I often refer to art as my vernacular language.
Art education in elementary is an ideal way for children to become aware of themselves and the world. Creativity is such an amazing virtue especially in younger kids where it has no limits. Through the art curriculum we will explore different topics that promote consciousness, creativity and kindness. We will focus on making art for a better world.
