  • 7th Grade Language Arts (ELA 2) Syllabus:

     

    Course Title: 7th Grade Language Arts 2 (ELA)                               Academic Year: 2019-2020

    Description of Course

                The purpose of this course is to provide grade 7 students, using texts of appropriate complexity, integrated language arts study in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language for college and career preparation and readiness.

    Class Materials

    • FSUS Google Account (remember your login information)
    • Earbuds/headphones (please keep an inexpensive set in your backpack for daily use)
    • Lined, blank notebook paper in school binder within Language Arts tab
    • Writing implement(s)
    • Self-selected, parent-approved, silent reading book (in backpack EVERY day!)
    • School planner

     

    Class Rules/Class Procedures

     

    Tardy Students

    Students must be in their assigned seats and ready to learn when the tardy bell rings in order to be marked on time.

     

    Make-up Work

    For missed classwork/homework due to absence, students will have two school days, not including the day of return, for each class day absent in which an assignment has been given, to submit the work. Previously assigned work is due the day of return.  Students should access Google Classroom for assignment details and ask Ms. Clawson for any needed clarification.

     

    Late Work

    Work should be submitted by the due date.  In the event that a due date is missed, students have the opportunity to submit late work for up to 50% credit until two days after the original due date. Students with an ELL, IEP, or 504 will be provided every opportunity to utilize their accommodations. The extended time accommodation will be given, provided they use their class time responsibly.

     

    Scheduling a Conference

      If you would like to discuss an issue that is specific to our class, please email me and we will resolve the issue.  If you need to meet with the entire 7th grade team, email Lisa Kelley, Dean of Academics, lkelley@admin.fsu.edu and she will schedule our conference.

    As stated in the Code of Conduct, cheating on any assignment, which includes plagiarism, will result in a referral and a grade of zero for ALL students involved.

     

    Technology Policy

    Students will be expected to use technology appropriately.  Inappropriate use of technology, including but not limited to, accessing nonacademic content, using technology to cheat, using technology in a disrespectful manner, or damaging technology materials will result in consequences, which will be addressed as outlined in the FSUS Code of Conduct. 

               

    Cell Phones – Phones must be turned off and in a student’s backpack/bag during class time, unless students are invited by the teacher to utilize the phones for the purpose of completing a specific task for a lesson. Students must not photograph, audio, or video record adults or students at any time without their express consent and for the purpose of a given class assignment.

    Description of Course

              The purpose of this course is to provide supplemental instruction that enables students to accelerate the development of needed skills so they are able to successfully complete content area work.  Intensive courses are designed to allow for the selection and teaching of the appropriate standards corresponding to the student's grade and/or instructional level.
