Ms. Barbara Davis

I was born and raised in Miami and graduated from Westminster Christian School. I attended the Universty of Miami for two years and worked in two restaurant kitchens. I also spent one summer doing construction on the Miami Metro Zoo, now called Zoo Miami. I then spent five years in Cleveland Ohio at the Cleveland Institute of Art where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture with an emphasis in ceramics. I was a college radio DJ and I also cooked in two restaurants while I was up north. (Love to cook! Love to eat!) After graduation in 1984 I joined the Peace Corps and taught agriculture to high school students in Gomare, Botswana. I spent 3 years as a volunteer and then 3 years training new Peace Corps Volunteers arriving in Botswana. Upon my return in December of 1990 I trained in forensic photography at the Forensic Imaging Bureau at the Miami Dade Medical Examiner. What brought me to Tallahassee? FSU, of course, where I earned my Master of Fine Arts while teaching photography as a TA and then as an adjunct after graduation. Next I spent an incredibly interesting ten years in several positions with the Southeastern Regional Education Lab, funded by OERI  (US Department of Education). This included projects in early childhood technology planning, best practices in instruction and assessment, and comprehensive school reform. Part of my time was spent in schools throughout the southeastern US and eventually I realized I missed working with kids. Things fell into place in August of 2002 when I joined the "Dream Team" art department at Florida State University Schools. At 42 I finally found what I wanted to be when I grew up! I've taught both photography and sculpture and now, in my 19th year at Fla High,  I am geared up to focus all my energies with Scupture 1, 2, 3 and AP 3D.
