The High School English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum focuses on advanced literary analysis, writing skills, and effective communication. Students explore various genres, analyze complex texts, and hone their writing abilities through essays, research papers, and creative projects. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, grammar, and vocabulary development. Additionally, speaking and listening activities foster communication skills. The pre-AP and AP curriculum prepares students for higher education, careers, and civic engagement by cultivating proficiency in language arts and interdisciplinary connections.

The High School Mathematics curriculum is designed to deepen students' understanding of mathematical concepts and to prepare them for college and careers. Building upon the foundation laid in middle school, the curriculum covers a range of topics including algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics. Students engage in problem-solving activities, mathematical modeling, and real-world applications to develop critical thinking skills and mathematical fluency. Emphasis is placed on mastering core mathematical concepts and techniques, as well as on developing the ability to communicate mathematical ideas effectively. Advanced coursework options may include AP (Advanced Placement) Statistics, AP Calculus, and Pre-Calculus. Through a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum, students develop the mathematical proficiency necessary for success in higher education and various professions.

The High School Social Studies curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of history, geography, civics, economics, and global issues. Through a variety of courses and elective options, students explore key historical events, political systems, cultural traditions, and societal developments that have shaped human civilization. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and the development of research skills. Students engage in discussions, debates, and projects that encourage them to consider multiple perspectives and evaluate the impact of historical events on contemporary society. Additionally, the curriculum often includes opportunities for students to explore current events, global connections, and pressing social issues, fostering civic awareness and active participation in their communities and the world at large.

The High School Science curriculum is crafted to swiftly guide students towards advanced studies in subjects including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and Health Sciences, with a strong emphasis on hands-on experimentation and critical thinking. Learners delve into areas such as cellular biology, chemical reactions, and geological processes, establishing connections between scientific theories and practical applications in the real world. Engaging in laboratory experiments and projects, they hone their skills in inquiry and data analysis. This comprehensive approach equips students for further education and empowers them to make informed decisions.

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program is a merit-based scholarship program funded by the state of Florida, providing financial assistance to eligible Florida high school graduates for post-secondary education in the state. FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a form used by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eligibility for federal student financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study programs.

All forms and documents should be emailed to your Academic Dean. Printed forms may also be submitted to the Student Services Office.

There are some very good reasons to complete community service hours while enrolled in high school.  As soon as students are promoted to the 9th grade (the month of June following promotion to the 9th grade), they can begin to accrue community service hours towards scholarships.  You should know that Florida Bright Futures Scholarships (Academic Scholars and Merit Scholars) require community service hours to be completed:

• Florida Academic Scholars  -  100 Hours
• Florida Medallion Scholars   -  75 Hours 
• Florida Gold Seal Vocational -  30 Hours

The Community Service Form should be used to document volunteer activities that students participate in at FSUS and in the community.

If available, request the coordinator to document the activity on their letterhead and provide the following:

• Name of student
• Total hours volunteered
• Short summary of what the student has participated in and how they assisted

Dual Enrollment is a program that allows eligible high school students to earn credit toward high school graduation and future college degree programs. Credits earned through Dual Enrollment will be applied to the student’s high school transcript and college/university transcript. The dual enrollment program is recommended for students in 11th and 12th grade if they meet eligibility criteria. We offer dual enrollment on-site at FSUS (ENC1101 & ENC1102) in partnership with Tallahassee Community College (TCC), and students are open to dual enrollment with TCC, FAMU or FSU either online or on campus. In order to be eligible students must maintain a 3.0 unweighted GPA and meet qualifying test scores.

Students who wish to take a dual enrollment course should schedule an appointment with the dual enrollment coordinator, Coach McNeil (tmcneil@fsu.edu), to review eligibility, and will need to submit a dual enrollment form by the deadline.

Our tailored placement decisions consider individual needs. FSUS has limitations in the programs and services it can provide within the continuum of placements under the IDEA. Our offerings include support for Gifted, English Language Learners (ELL), and a Multi-Tiered System of Support, ensuring a comprehensive approach to education for every student.
