Student Selection Process
FSUS receives approximately 3000 lottery applications each year, and we have a very limited number of openings, as students tend to remain enrolled after initial entry into our school. The majority of openings occur in kindergarten and sixth grade. Students are randomly selected for openings by computer program according to demographic information that most closely represents the public school student population profile of the Florida Panhandle. Consideration is also given to children who have active military parent(s), who have siblings enrolled at Florida State University Schools, children whose parent(s) graduated from Florida State University Schools, and children of current employees of Florida State University Schools. Children who are not selected remain in the applicant pool and will be considered for any vacancies that occur during the school year for which they applied. If your child is selected to fill a vacancy by the computer program, you will be notified. If you would like to keep your child in the applicant pool for the following school year, you must reapply.
Invitation to Apply
Initial selections and enrollment invitations are contingent upon parent provision of the required enrollment documentation and subsequent school review of said documentation. Invitation to apply does not guarantee enrollment. Upon selection, the parent/guardian is contacted by electronic mail. The parent/guardian will have five (5) calendar days from the date of the electronic mail to accept the invitation and an additional ten (10) calendar days to submit the required documents. Prompt completion of this application is required for enrollment consideration, but does not guarantee acceptance into Florida State University School. Upon completion and review of all required documentation, the parent/guardian will be notified of their child’s enrollment status.
Applicant Requirements
Applicants are required to submit academic, discipline, attendance, health and special services records. Incomplete applications will not be considered for enrollment.
Truth in Application
Providing incomplete, inaccurate, false and/or misleading information or omitting material information in your application will result in a withdrawal of the invitation to attend or subsequent withdrawal of the applicant from Florida State University Schools.
Conditions for Admission
Enrollment Age
Enrollment Age In accordance with F.S. 1003.21(1)(a), only those students who are 5 years of age by September 1 of the year in which they seek enrollment will be eligible for enrollment into kindergarten. Students entering first grade who are 6 years of age by September 1 of the year in which they seek enrollment and have successfully completed kindergarten will be eligible for enrollment into 1st grade.
Fees
The parents/guardians are responsible for paying activity fees, and providing all registration information according to established deadlines. Failure to comply will result in the withdrawal of the student(s) admission and enrollment.
Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Services
Florida State University School offers limited exceptional student educational services and accommodations in an inclusive setting. We have a carefully designed multi-tiered system of instructional support. Supplemental instruction is designed to support student success in the general education curriculum. Parents must disclose their child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan status and the most current plan as applicable. If a student's IEP states they need more extensive services that cannot be met in the general education setting, the invitation to attend will be withdrawn, and the applicant will be referred back to their home county district.

Southwood Residents
Florida State University Schools (FSUS) and The St. Joe Company have a student reservation agreement that reserves a specified number of seats at FSUS for SouthWood residents. Therefore, residents of SouthWood have the option of joining the SouthWood Waiting List instead of applying in the General Lottery. SouthWood residents that choose to be on the SouthWood Waiting List will not be eligible for the FSUS General Lottery Selection.
To be eligible to use one of the SouthWood Waiting List seats, a parent must own property in SouthWood and be a member in good standing with the SouthWood Residential Community Association, Inc. Parents renting property do not qualify to be on the Waiting List.
The following documentation is required to substantiate ownership of property in the SouthWood community.
- Copy of the recorded General Warranty Deed or the Executed Lot Purchase Agreement
- Copy of the child(ren)’s Birth Certificate(s)
- Copy of the parent’s driver’s license
Once documentation has been verified by SouthWood Homeowners Association (HOA), the child will be added to the SouthWood Waiting List.
If you are a SouthWood resident and would like to add your child to the Waiting List, please see the link below.
