2019-2020 Florida State University Schools, Tallahassee, FL • Taught FSUS middle school Journalism 1 & 11, middle school Creative Writing, middle school Speech/Debate 1, high school Journalism, and high school Speech/Debate 1 • Served as adviser for the first-ever middle school student-produced school newspaper, which was published as an online newspaper • Served as the adviser for Quill and Scroll, an international honorary for scholastic journalism • Served as adviser for the high school newspaper. Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA) awarded the staff a silver ranking. The staff received one All-Florida award for news reporting and five excellent awards for features. • Prepared sixth grade students for competition in the Tropicana Public Speaking Contest while serving as the lead school coordinator for the classroom and school-level events. As lead coordinator, I was responsible for securing community leaders to serve as judges, producing all relevant programs and documents.

As lead coordinator, I was responsible for securing community leaders to serve as judges, producing all relevant programs and documents, and providing refreshments for the guests. • My Speech/Debate 1 student won the district-level competition in the Tropicana Public Speaking Contest. 2012-2012 Florida Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, Tallahassee, FL June-August 2012 • Evaluated teachers’ lesson plans for compliance with the state of Florida’s standards for common core curriculum • (This position was by invitation and this aspect of the project was scheduled for completion by the end of the summer). • FCR-STEM and FLDOE, together in partnership with school districts, consortia, and universities throughout Florida, are building a database-driven system that houses the most recent information about the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS), Courses, and Related Resources. These information systems can be accessed at www.cpalms.org. • Evaluated teachers’ lesson plans. As an Expert Reviewer for CPALMS, I helped to review and publish original lessons while also serving as a proofreader, format editor and essentially providing professional development for the submitters on how to make their lessons stronger in different areas.


2009-2012 Jefferson County Middle/High School, Monticello, FL • Taught English I, English I-Honors, English II, and Journalism • Participated in the Professional Development Protocol Review for JCMHS • Selected as a committee member of the principal’s Leadership Team • Selected as a presenter for the Tallahassee Democrat’s Teen Boot Camp for journalism students • Served as adviser for the high school newspaper and creative writing club • Increased the passing percentage of FCAT Writes scores for sophomores under my instruction from 40% to 85%


2006-2009 Florida State University Schools, Tallahassee, FL • Taught English I, English II, English II-Honors, Journalism I, II, III, Creative Writing, and Speech • Served as adviser to the student-produced school newspaper, during which time the paper was awarded a silver ranking from the Florida Scholastic Press Association and 23 individual awards, as well as a first-place ranking from Quill and Scroll, an international honorary for scholastic journalism • Devised mock interview process for Florida High’s Best and Brightest Committee, a community scholarship program; • Two journalism students were awarded scholarships by Leon County’s Best and Brightest Committee • Served as a judge for the Tropicana Speech Contest • Elevated the FCAT Writes scores for my sophomore students such that their composite score of 4.5 was the highest in the state for the l0th grade


1995-2005—Charles Henderson High School, Troy, AL • Taught Journalism, Debate, Speech, and Drama • Served as adviser to the school’s student-produced newspaper for ten years, during which time the paper became one of the top high school newspapers in the state and won top honors at the Alabama Scholastic Press Association’s convention in 2004 with the “All-Alabama” award. During this time, my students earned their second consecutive first place ranking from Quill and Scroll. • Coached the debate team for 7 years, twice qualifying for the National Forensic League’s National Tournament • Awarded Deep South District, State of Alabama Coach of the Year • Served as drama teacher, reinstating the drama program at CHHS after students petitioned for a reactivation of the program under my guidance. • Directed annual spring plays for seven years, which were widely supported by community businesses and through state grants from the State Arts Council
